Know the finer points of the Wizarding World
The centrepiece of the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park in Orlando, Florida, is no doubt Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, a state-of-the-art ride that flies visitors through Hogwarts and scenes from the boy wizard's school life. Also amazing is Hogwarts Express, the train that transports Muggles into the realm of magic. But where can you go for a little R&R? Here's an insider's guide to Harry's world, Marauder's Map not included.
1. Butterbeer cart: The non-alcoholic recipe, created for Universal Orlando and approved by author JK Rowling, results in a taste that resembles a shortbread cookie and butterscotch. The beverage is also available in Hog's Head Tavern.
2. Ollivanders: The new branch of the wand shop pairs entertainment with retail. Through magical effects, a wand keeper helps match wand with audience member.
3. Public conveniences: Don't need to go to the restroom? Go anyway. You may hear unusual things, especially the voice of Moaning Myrtle, the ghost of a former Hogwarts student who haunts bathroom facilities.
4. An (animatronics) hippogriff: The part-horse, part-eagle creature is nestled behind the Flight of the Hippogriff roller coaster. It's big but it's easiest to see when you're on the ride.
5. Owlery: Here's a place to relax, maybe sip a butterbeer, or recover from the close-quarters shopping experience of the attached Dervish & Banges. It's a covered pavilion with owls aplenty in its rafters.
6. Live entertainment: Expect regular performances by the Frog Chorus (an a cappella quartet plus two amphibians) as well as physical demonstrations by the contrasting styles of Beauxbatons Academy of Magic (dancing with ribbons) and Durmstrung Institute (very serious acrobatics and weaponry). MCT
