Teacher who amended PSLE scripts sentenced to 8 weeks' jail

I am tempted to change the title of this news, but as I am both perplexed and amused (amused meaning entertained without any thinking), I decided to keep it the same, full text.

I mean, as there are so many students who would do anything to pass their exams, I couldn't think of a teacher to do some 'manipulation' on the test scripts – for what, or whatever, that is something else. And in Singapore? Come on.

Not to spoil the news, find out more, and read it here.

Carabao with 2 heads born in Iloilo town

06/29/2009 | 04:35 PM

MANILA, Philippines - A carabao that was about to be slaughtered for meat gave birth to an offspring with two heads in a town in Iloilo in central Philippines, a radio report said Monday.

For at least a few hours, residents in Bingawan town jostled each other to see the carabao born with two heads.

But Visayas-based Bombo Radyo reported that the carabao, which was born in Guinholacan village, died a few hours after it was born.

Carabao owner Victor Castroverde said that except for the "extra head," the carabao had no abormality in its body.

Residents are now waiting for local agriculture officials to determine what caused the abnormality. - GMANews.TV

Mammoth skeleton unearthed in Serbia

06/04/2009 | 09:47 PM

BELGRADE, Serbia – A well-preserved skeleton of a mammoth that is believed to be about one million years old has been unearthed in eastern Serbia, archaeologists said Thursday.

The discovery was made during excavation two days ago at an open-pit coal mine near Kostolac power plant, said Miomir Korac, from Serbia's Archaeology Institute.

The skeleton was found 27 meters (89 feet) below ground, he said. The mammoth was more than 4 meters (13 feet) high, 5 meters (16 feet) long and weighed more than 10 tons.

"It is very well-preserved with only slight damage to the skull and the tusks," Korac told the AP. "There have been practically no major tectonic disruptions here for at least a million years."

Korac said the mammoth was a so-called southern mammoth, or mammuthus meridionalis, originating from northern Africa. Experts will continue research to find out more about the environment it lived in.

Another mammoth skeleton, from a much later period, was discovered at a factory in Serbia in 1996 and was named Kika. - AP
