Consolidation of Contents

Children from the American Institute school in...Image via Wikipedia
For a couple of years, we have been posting to two sites, here, and in another. This site is the first that we put up, and as we attempted to assign the name of the URL as best and as close to the targeted content and audience, the name was taken, so a unique name was given by adding in the initials of our 3 girls.

Then we tried another URL name, which went through.

Since that day on, we were posting at these 2 sites. Which was OK for some time.

Then the confusion started. Until these days, where the confusion was getting more and more, and worse.

Kids Online: Opportunities and risks for childrenSo even though it was painful, we thought and thought and thought, and finally, made a decision. And selected to keep this site, and discontinue the other one (One Blog for Kids).

And to save all the work that was done, we imported all the contents: posts, articles, comments - everything - here. So don't wonder if the archive or the number of posts suddenly increased.

Feel free to go through all the posts once again; you might find something that interests you. And do leave your comments.

Till then, and do visit us regularly. We'll do our part of gathering articles and news - for our learning and education - in our preparation for the growing years.

Speed Reading - Why We Don't Read Fast-er

There will be a need to read faster so we can cover more titles, and aside from doing that, to be able to understand more, and learn more, and know more.

Here is one brief article that will discuss what our common reading problems are. And, how it can be resolved. But no, it's not in this article. Help is somewhere else.

For that short article, read on...

Speed Reading Tips - How to Read Faster

Everyone can increase his reading speed, but he has to change his reading habits for doing it. Reading is so natural to most of us that we do not care how we read. Therefore our reading techniques are not optimal. Usually we do not even recognize that we have poor reading habits. If we could improve our reading methods, then we can improve our reading speed. Most of all we have to get rid of bad reading habits:

Speed Reading Book: Read More, Learn More, Achieve More
  • Reading words twice. Most people have developed a habit that while reading a text the move backwards with their eyes from time to time and they will re-read some words. It is the biggest obstacle to speed reading. If you can get rid of this habit then some people can even double their reading speed by doing so.
  • Sub-vocalization. People are used to say the words out while reading at that slows them down. Our lips are slower than our eyes. If we learn to read only with our eyes then we can start reading much faster.
  • Eyes moving from left to right. Everyone is taught to read that way at school. If we read text in this manner then we usually grasp only one or two words with our sight. If you want to read faster then you have to learn to grasp more words with your eyes, which allows you to move your eyes more vertically than horizontally. It can be amazing how this makes you a faster reader.

Breakthrough Rapid ReadingIt takes you some time to get rid of these habits. Actually you will need to take a speed reading course in order to develop new reading habits and learn many other ways for improving your reading techniques. You have to do some work, but it will give you a benefit of having faster reading speed for your entire life. Speed reading will become a new habit for you.

Solar-Powered Plane Flies Off!

Piccards Project "Solar Impulse" at ...Image via Wikipedia
An invention. I always tell my kids that there has been many inventions, and coming up with an invention is NO BIG DEAL.

I would have to explain to them that inventing is not what matters. What matters is that your invention is something that will help mankind, without having to destroy the earth that we live in. Look at plastic. its invention was most definitely heralded as one of the greatest in mankind's history, but nowadays, it is also one, if not THE, most abhorred product, and is considered the worst pollutant to the planet that we live in.

Not to deal on plastics or any other inventions, let me present to you the news on one inventions - this one really flies!

Read on:

----------
"The Solar Impulse, a solar-powered plane covered in 12,000 solar cells, took its maiden flight today in Switzerland. The plane stayed aloft for 87 minutes, performing test maneuvers as well as completing a successful takeoff and landing. With the first test flight behind them, the developers can focus on gearing up for their around-the-world solar powered flight set for 2012."
----------

What's your say? Have you got yours? Anything in your mind to consider as a new invention?
Whatever, do leave your comments.

No oxygen - and alive!

Map in English of the Mediterranean Sea, with ...Image via Wikipedia
Hi kids!

Have you heard of the news about a discovery made about an organism that lives - without oxygen?

How's that?

Read it below:

----------
"Scientists have found the first multicellular animals that apparently live entirely without oxygen. The creatures reside deep in one of the harshest environments on earth: the Mediterranean Ocean's L'Atalante basin, which contains salt brine so dense that it doesn't mix with the oxygen-containing waters above."

Happy discovery!

Comics Sale

Lately there was a buzz around one who purchased the very old Superman classic comics for about $1.5m, but I'm sure were not going for that kind. We are from the group who would want a 'sales' as the word means in its simplest form.

So how do we hunt for comics on sale?

Read on...

Comics Sale - Find Your Favorite Book at a Discount

When going around to the different garage sales I always find that mother, that is sick and tired of her son's stack of comics. Sale of these comic books go on behind their son's back, or while he is out of town.

Some people think this is taken advantage of the sale, since most mothers have no idea the real worth of what she is selling. Yes most of the time you get what you pay for but once in a while there is a gem.

There are always plenty of Mad Magazines and Spiderman, but my favorite is Conan the Barbarian. This comic book lasted for 23 years in its first publication from 1970 to 1993. I was still in grade school when it first came out. It had nothing to do with Arnold Schwarzenegger; this was far before that time. But I found a Conan the Barbarian #195 for 10 cents. It was in very good shape. I thought I found gold, but there are still too many of them around. A mint condition one is only worth $3.00. But for me I still am glad I found it and have kept it.

But comics sale can be found not only in your neighborhood but at the stores and online. For me personally I want to hold it in my hand and judge the condition. Having a stranger judge the condition that they are going to profit from still does not sit right with me. This is one of the things that I do not do online. I will always prefer to rummage through the stacks of comic books and see what I can find.

Comics sale to me is like telling a child you have free candy.

Rare and vintage comic books are one the smartest investments you can make - but more importantly, they are fun to own. Are you ready to buy comic books online? We have the comic books for sale that you have been craving at Comic Book Cravings. Visit us at http://www.comicbookcravings.com/.
